The TL;DR: C.P.O. | Chief Pretty Officer.

A breakup at 3 AM changed everything. I took inventory of my life physically, emotionally, spiritually and it became the ritual that helped me rise. This issue invites you to do the same. Start with what matters now. You don’t have to fix everything take the lead back.

At 3 AM on a snowy February 2003, I was awakened by the man I was supposed to spend the rest of my life with in a couple of weeks. Sitting in a chair in the half-light-dark living room, he chillingly declared,

“I don’t want to be with you anymore. You won’t be the mother of my children. I don’t love you.” Then he told me to pack my things and leave.

In a matter of weeks, after supposedly being happily ever after, my 30-year-old self—who believed she had found lifelong love was suddenly confronted with the harsh truth that fate had other plans.

The day it happened, I didn’t cry. I didn’t feel hurt, not for an entire year. I was too shocked, numb, too embarrassed, and silent. Have you ever been wronged by someone that cuts you deep to silence?

I couldn’t understand how someone can love and destroy a future in one moment.

I looked in the mirror and saw a woman who wasn’t going to the gym, was young and had baby fat but did not have a routine for working out. I thought a routine and regime could help me self-reflect. Start there, and the rest will follow. My skincare game was strong, but the rest? I knew I had to take ownership if I didn’t, I’d hit 40, feeling stuck in something I couldn’t fix, and the road would be a little more challenging.

Taking Inventory Reflection.
A Time For Change.

I spent that year telling myself it would never happen again. Take inventory, look inward, and think forward for a better you. That was the first time I took inventory not just of my relationships, but of myself. And I’ve been doing it ever since.

I knew that changing my lifestyle would require discipline in my routine and help me find clarity, curiosity, and the amplitude to continuously learn about my mind and body changing, balance, and confidence.

Besides, let’s be honest there was tea for everyone for a minute. And if people were going to pass around my story like that? I was going to look, feel damn good, and fall with grace while riding out that emotional hangover.

When I gained control of understanding myself and could see a difference in my well-being, I became excited. By looking further inward and going deeper, I wanted my future self to forever give me a high five. I began taking inventory every year, sometimes every few months, to ensure that I never returned or regressed. My goal was to move forward and improve consistently, and I reflected on how I could become a better version of myself (More tracks to play about creative ways to take inventory). Though it was sometimes difficult, I prioritized my well-being above all else.

Sometimes, inventory starts from rock bottom. Sometimes, it begins with a whisper. Either way, it’s how you take the lead.

Would I change anything? Nope. That experience taught me how to take ownership physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.

Vanity Cabinet. Workbook.

This is where intention meets action. In this issue, I created the Inventory workbook as a tool to help you check in not to fix everything but to focus on what needs your care right now. Think of it as a quiet moment at your vanity: one decision, one ritual, one shift at a time.

Choose where you want to feel better and give your future self something to celebrate. I have no regrets about maturing and wouldn't want to be younger again. Reaching my 40s was carnival, and the hard work I put in back then continues to benefit me today. I genuinely want you to feel the same and normalize your change.
